How to Add an A Record for White-Labelling CallFluent

3 min. readlast update: 03.11.2025

If you’re setting up a custom domain for white-labeling CallFluent, you’ll need to add an A record in your domain’s DNS settings. Follow this step-by-step guide to ensure a smooth setup.

Important Note on Where to Set Up the A Record

Where you add the A record depends on where your domain’s name servers are managed:

If your domain and name servers are managed by the same provider (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.), add the A record in their DNS settings.

If your name servers are managed by another hosting provider (e.g., your domain is registered with GoDaddy, but you are using HostGator’s name servers), you need to add the A record in HostGator, not GoDaddy.

In summary: Update the A record wherever your name servers are managed, not at the domain registrar (unless they also manage the name servers).

Step 1: Add the A Record to Your Registrar/Hosting Provider

Before you do anything inside CallFluent, you must first add the A record in your domain provider or hosting provider.

Steps for Adding an A Record in cPanel (or Any Other DNS Editor)

1️⃣ Log in to your domain provider or hosting provider’s cPanel (or any DNS management tool they provide).
2️⃣ Locate the DNS settings (it may be called Zone Editor or DNS Zone Editor).
3️⃣ Click + A Record to add a new A record.
4️⃣ In the Name field, enter the full domain you want to use, such as app.yourdomain.com. (Note: "app" is just an example—you can use anything like login.yourdomain.com, portal.yourdomain.com, or even your name, e.g., john.yourdomain.com).
5️⃣ In the Address field, enter the IP address provided by CallFluent (found inside the Customize App section in CallFluent).
6️⃣ Click Add A Record to save your settings.

Step 2: Check for DNS Propagation Before Adding to CallFluent

Once you have added the A record, DO NOT immediately add the domain in CallFluent. You first need to check whether your DNS changes have propagated across the internet.

✅ Go to Global DNS Propagation Checker.
✅ Enter the domain you just set up the A record for (e.g., app.yourdomain.com).
✅ Click Search to check if the records have propagated.

📌 Wait until at least 80-90% of the locations show the correct IP address before proceeding to the next step. This can take anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours, depending on your domain provider.

Step 3: Add the Domain in CallFluent

Once the A record has propagated successfully, you can now add the domain inside CallFluent:

1️⃣ Log in to CallFluent.
2️⃣ Navigate to Customize App.
3️⃣ Enter the domain name you just set up (e.g., http://app.yourdomain.com).
4️⃣ Fill in the rest of the customization details as needed.
5️⃣ Click Save and wait for the system to verify the domain.

Why Use a Subdomain (e.g., app.yourdomain.com) Instead of the Main Domain?

We strongly recommend using a subdomain like app.yourdomain.com instead of your main domain (yourdomain.com). Here’s why:

You can still edit your main website (yourdomain.com) without affecting your CallFluent login page.
✅ It keeps things organized—your main website can remain a business site while the subdomain serves as the login portal for your customers.
✅ It allows for easier management of future updates without disrupting your primary domain’s content.

Additional Notes

If you are using Cloudflare: Be aware that Cloudflare may override your A record settings. Double-check your Cloudflare configuration to ensure it doesn’t interfere with your DNS setup for CallFluent.

DNS Propagation Delays: Some domain registrars may take longer to update DNS records. If your setup isn’t working after a few hours, check your A record again or contact your domain provider.

Once these steps are completed, your white-labeled domain should be fully functional with CallFluent.
